What a customer gets out of it

  • See a Dell fleet discovered and inventoried out-of-band through its iDRACs, with no agent on the servers
  • Show firmware compliance against Dell's own Enterprise Catalog, and the update workflow an operations team runs from OME
  • Read server health and alerts across the fleet from one place
  • Coming next: capture network adapter personalities (partitioning, NIC/FCoE/iSCSI) and RAID layouts as server templates and compare them against the live servers
  • Discuss how templates and baselines keep a rebuilt or replaced server identical to its peers

Why it matters

Firmware drift, inconsistent adapter settings and hand-built RAID are the quiet risks in every server estate: invisible until a security advisory, a support case or a failed rebuild makes them urgent. Dell OpenManage Enterprise answers that from one console. It discovers the fleet through its iDRACs, compares every component against Dell's published catalog, reports health, and pushes adapter personalities and RAID layouts as templates, so a replacement server comes up identical to the one it replaces. For a customer standardising on PowerEdge, it is the difference between managing servers one at a time and managing them as a fleet.

Overview

Each booking gets its own Dell OpenManage Enterprise appliance, built on the lab's core management hosts and importing the lab's PowerEdge demo servers through their iDRAC 9 controllers.

Features within the suite

OpenManage Enterprise brings four server-lifecycle functions into one console: firmware compliance and updates, fleet health, network adapter personality deployment, and RAID configuration.

What you will see

  • Out-of-band discovery and inventory of a real Dell fleet
  • Firmware compliance against Dell's Enterprise Catalog, with a baseline bound to the server group
  • Fleet health and alerts
  • Coming next: network adapter personalities and RAID layouts captured as server templates and compared against the live servers

How it runs

This demo imports real servers that other lab demos run on, so every session is approved and led by an SME, and configuration templates are previewed, never pushed to those servers. You reach the console over the lab VPN or the Guacamole jump host; it is not published to the internet.

Signing in

The class signs in as instructor-01 / student-NN with their booking password. OME limits local user names to 16 characters, so the full lab address is not the login.
